Materials
- Two 2 in. x 10 in. x 8 ft. Better Prime Doug Fir Lumber
- One 4 in. x 4 in. X 12 ft. Better Douglas Fir Lumber (this will be enough for six 24 in. X 4 in. x 4 in.)
- Six #12 x 5-5/8” Screws
- 4 hole flat joining bracket
- Flat Head #12 X 3/4 in. wood screw
- Wood stain tintable base, tint to 46+ colors
- 220 Discs
Tools
- Miter Saw (or have your local hardware store cut the wood for you)
- Orbital Sander
- Drill
- Drill and drive kit
Dimensions
HEIGHT: Cut the 4 in. x 4 in. X 12 ft. Douglas Fir into six 24 inches pieces. The desk height of 24 inches can easily accommodating both sitting kids and adults (4’3″ to 6’3″) with the use of an adjustable chair. If you have a particular chair that you would like to use, you can also adjust the height of the legs to your linking. Remember to account for the addition lumber you will need to purchased at the hardware store if you want a desk height that is higher than 24 inches.
LENGHT: The table top length depends on the size of your room and preference.
WIDTH: Combined two 2 in. x 10 in. x 8 ft. Doug Fir pieces resulting in a 20 inch width. Alternatively, two 2 in. x 12 in. X 8 ft. Doug Fir pieces could be used to create a wider width of 24 inches. A 20 inch width can easily fit dual monitors on one side and a desk riser with a laptop on the other.
STEP 1
Cut all the wood. Cut the 4 in. x 4 in. X 12 ft. Douglas Fir into six 24 inch pieces. Cut 2 in. x 10 in. x 8 ft. Doug Fir to your desired desk length.
STEP 2
Sand all the wood with a 220 disc.

STEP 4
The two 2 in. x 10 in. x 8 ft. Doug Fir pieces were connected with the use of four 4 hole joining brackets and 3/4 in. wood screws. A bracket was added to each end of the desk and two of were placed across the middle.
STEP 5
Secure each legs (24 in. x 4 in. x 4 in. Doug Fir) by drilling one #12 x 5-5/8” screw through the desk top. Remember to use a drill bit that is smaller than the 5-5/8 screw prior to drilling the wood screw to prevent the wood from cracking.
Consideration
Refrain from using wood glue or dowels to cover the 5 inch wood screws if you want the option of being able to easily disassemble it in the future.
This build is inexpensive, can be done in less than 20 minutes and is perfect for beginner!
